A course is the permanent catalog entry (“CS3001 Data Structures, 3 credits”). It isn’t tied to a semester — each term it is offered again (step 8).

Create a course

Catalog › Courses › Add Course — a short wizard:

  1. Identification & organization — code (or a prefix to generate it), title, faculty and study program, category (Core, General Education, Elective, Practical) and status.
  2. Credits & placement — lecture credits (theory) and lab credits (practice); the suggested semester in the curriculum; the minimum passing grade; the maximum number of online lecture and lab sessions; and the delivery:
    • Class — meets weekly in a room; timetabled, with sessions and attendance.
    • Supervised — thesis, internship, research or independent study: never timetabled and takes no room, time slot or exam slot. The class’s lecturer is the supervisor and grading happens in the gradebook.
  3. Review — check and create.

Two options:

  • Lab requires campus — the practical part can’t run online (studios, workshops, wet labs). It stays on campus even in emergency online mode.
  • Big class — the course also has one combined lecture for all its students in an auditorium, on top of the normal classes.

Syllabus

The head of program writes the syllabus of their courses (admins see it read-only):

  • Assessment components per track (lecture and lab) — for example Assignments 30%, Mid exam 30%, Final exam 40%. Each track must total 100%. Each component is marked as coursework, mid exam or final exam; exams are then created from these components.
  • Textbooks.
  • Course policies — attendance, late submission, academic integrity, communication — taken from the campus defaults unless overridden.

A course can’t be graded properly until its syllabus is complete.

Prerequisites

On the course page, add courses a student must have passed or must have attempted first. A student can’t enroll into a package containing the course until its prerequisites are met.

Activity programs

The Activity programs tab next to the course list holds learning-outside-the-classroom programs (internships, exchange…) that convert into courses. It’s optional — see Learning outside the classroom.
