2.1. Package or self-service KRS

The two ways a student enrolls each semester — why there are two, who gets which, and what happens in the in-between cases.

Indonesian campuses enroll students in one of two ways, and Edunara supports both:

Semester package (KRS paket)Self-service KRS (KRS mandiri)
What it isThe study program sets the courses for each semester of the curriculum; the student takes them as one bundle. The student builds their own course list (KRS) from the courses offered that term.
Who decides the coursesThe study program (Head of Program and admin)The student, checked by their academic advisor
Advisor approvalNot needed (unless the program turns it on)Always
When the bill appearsStraight away, on enrollingWhen the advisor approves the KRS
Typical useEarly semesters, when everyone in a cohort takes the same foundation coursesLater semesters, when students choose electives, a specialization or retakes

Who gets which

It depends only on the student’s current semester and one setting, self-service KRS from semester:

  • The setting is in Setup › Academic Settings for the whole campus, and a study program can set its own (Study programs). 0 means the package is used in every semester.
  • Example: with the setting at 5, students in semesters 1–4 take the package and students from semester 5 on build a KRS.
  • The Compact semester is always self-service KRS, because it’s only for retakes.
  • A program can also make the academic advisor check package enrollments too, for example when it wants every enrollment looked at.

In-between cases

SituationWhat happens
A package student failed a course beforeIt’s listed under the package as a course to retake; they add it before paying and the bill updates.
A KRS student failed a course beforeIt appears among the courses they can pick, if it runs this term.
Compact semesterEveryone builds a KRS, and only retake courses are offered (9 credits by default).
A transfer student joins in semester 3The admin sets their current semester on the student’s record (People › Students); that number decides package or KRS like for anyone else.
A student returns from leaveThey enroll in the semester they’re in — the leave doesn’t move their semester forward.
The KRS is over the credit limitThe student can’t submit it, and the advisor can’t approve it. The limit comes from last semester’s IPS (credit limits).
A course’s prerequisites aren’t metIt can’t be taken, by package or KRS.
The package isn’t published yetPackage students see nothing to enroll in until the admin publishes it.
An approved activity (internship, exchange) covers some coursesThose courses stay on the package or KRS and are billed, but the student isn’t placed in their classes — the grade comes from the activity (MBKM).
The program changes the setting mid-yearIt applies from the next enrollment; enrollments already made stay as they are.
